It also provides State-by- State summaries of the statutory, regulatory, or administrative characteristics of criminal justice agencies. The second section presents the results of nationwide public opinion surveys on topics such as fear of victimization, capital punishment, correctional reform, gun control, drug abuse, and attitudes toward different components of the criminal justice system. The third section presents survey and official statistics regarding offenses. The other three sections detail the characteristics and distribution of persons arrested, case processing of juveniles and adults, and the numbers and characteristics of persons under correctional supervision.
