This report presents a socio-demographic profile of admissions to publicly funded substance abuse treatment during Fiscal Year 1996 for the five regions and 27 community health network areas (CHNA) in Massachusetts.
Abstract
Three tables in this report contain a detailed regional breakdown of admissions; a detailed breakdown by region and CHNA; and a list of cities, towns, and correctional institutions in each CHNA and region. A total of 102,862 persons were admitted to Bureau of Substance Abuse Service's treatment, including 101,084 primary and 1,778 collateral admissions, i.e., persons not seeking treatment for themselves but seeking help in dealing with issues regarding someone else's substance abuse. The report provides information on primary admissions, and describes 17 variables for those admissions: (1) Correctional Status; (2) Gender; (3) Age; (4) Race; (5) Ethnicity; (6) Marital Status; (7) Education; (8) Employment Status; (9) Homeless Status; (10) Mental Health Treatment; (11) Pregnancy; (12) Alcohol Use; (13) Cocaine Use; (14) Crack Use; (15) Marijuana Use; (16) Heroin Use; and (17) Needle Use.
