This report presents statistics on social welfare and child welfare services in municipalities in Norway in 1994, with emphasis on the recipients of various services.
Abstract
The document also presents time-series data for 1984-94 for cases of social welfare and the value of economic assistance and data for 1987-94 for new cases of children placed under protection, the number under protection during the year, and the number at the end of the year. Further data focus on children's institutions and institutions for alcoholics and drug addicts. The country had a total of 177,660 cases of social care with economic assistance in 1994; this amounted to 41 per 1,000 population. During the year, 27,000 children and youth received help based on the Act on Child Welfare Services; this amounted to 27 children per 1,000 under age 18. The number of children under protection increased 3 percent between 1993 and 1994. The country had 160 children's institutions with 1,382 beds in 1994. Fifty-four percent of the children in the institutions were males, and 55 percent were ages 14-17. Institutions for alcoholics and drug addicts had 2,652 beds and 2,102 residents on February 1, 1995.
