The most common antismoking programs used by corporations are reviewed, and a multidimensional, broad-based stop smoking program is described.
Abstract
An employee's smoking habit has traditionally been viewed as a personal decision beyond the concern and control of the organization. There is a growing trend in setting smoking policies for corporations to limit or ban smoking in the workplace. Businesses are using educational programs to scare people from smoking, counseling programs and prizes, and regulations and policies. The eight-step program outlined here involves: (1) fliers, films, and fears; (2) rules and classes; (3) "if you got 'em, smoke 'em and then smoke some more"; (4) "if you got 'em, throw 'em away"; (5) money and competition; (6) scare tactics; (7) positive benefits; and (8) follow-up. 20 references.
