Abstract
ALL OF THE JUVENILES STUDIED WERE TAKEN FROM 1975 REFERRALS TO THE JUVENILE PROBATION DEPARTMENT FOR THE OFFENSES OF: INABILITY TO ADJUST; PROBATION VIOLATIONS; CURFEW VIOLATIONS; INCORRIGIBILITY; RUNNING AWAY; AND TRUANCY. FEMALES ACCOUNTED FOR 57 PER CENT OF THE ENTIRE STATUS OFFENDER POPULATION: 76 PER CENT OF THE RUNAWAY POPULATION AND 68 PER CENT OF THE FOURTEEN TO FIFTEEN YEAR OLD AGE GROUP. FEMALE DOMINATION IN REFERRAL STATISTICS OCCURRED ONLY FOR CASUCASIANS. OFFENDERS WERE DETAINED AT A RATE OF 74 PER CENT. DETENTION TIME AVERAGED LESS THAN TWO DAYS. FEW STATUS OFFENDERS WERE FORMALLY PROSECUTED, AND 46.7 PER CENT OF ALL DISPOSITIONS FEATURED CLOSED CASES. A RETURN OF THE JUVENILE TO HIS OR HER OWN HOME ACCOUNTED FOR 61.1 PER CENT OF ALL PLACEMENT DECISIONS. THE MAJORITY OF CLIENTS WERE TREATED BY THE PROBATION DEPARTMENT. ...RCB
