This manual provides guidelines for using the Sex Offender Treatment Intervention and Progress Scale (SOTIPS).
This manual provides guidelines for using the recently updated Sex Offender Treatment Intervention and Progress Scale (SOTIPS). The manual is intended for use by mental health, social service, and corrections professionals in the sex offender, assessment, treatment, and supervision field for assistance in providing services to their clients. The SOTIPS is a 16-item dynamic measure designed to aid in assessing risk, treatment, and supervision needs for adult male sex offenders. The measure can be used as part of a static and dynamic risk assessment scheme, and it can be used in conjunction with other assessment tools or as a stand-alone instrument. The first section of the manual provides an introduction to SOTIPS along with information on the target population, changes from the last version, user qualification and training, scoring, and risk/need categories. The second section of the manual covers item descriptions and scoring criteria for the 16 items of SOTIPS: sexual offense responsibility, sexual behavior, sexual attitudes, sexual interests, sexual risk management, criminal and rule-breaking behavior, criminal and rule-breaking attitudes, stage of change, cooperation with treatment, cooperation with community supervision, emotion management, problem solving, impulsivity, employment, residence, and social influences.
