This book updates the available material on treatment techniques for sex offenders and presents a new treatment model.
Abstract
This model emphasizes an integrative approach that deals with sexual deviance from a holistic paradigm. The techniques used focus on all facets of the problem, from the offender's inner functioning to aspects of the criminal justice system. The first section discusses the psychodynamics of sex offenders, offers an introduction to the integrative model of treatment, outlines theories of sex offenses, describes characteristics and typologies of sex offenders, stresses the cost effectiveness of treatment versus incarceration, and explores issues unique to female sex offenders. The book discusses the implementation and administration of sex offender treatment programs, and covers different aspects of the actual treatment, including evaluation, clinical assessment, treatment planning, behavior modification, and group therapy, as well as aftercare treatment programs. The final section discusses some legal aspects related to the treatment of sex offenders, i.e., offenders' right to treatment, confidentiality and patient privilege, liability and negligence release, and the therapeutic use of sexually explicit materials. 10 appendixes
