Intended to be a meaningful adult sex offender assessment instrument/test in providing accurate and helpful sex offender information in courts, supervisory milieus, treatment settings, and recidivism research, the Sexual Adjustment Inventory (SAI) is shown to be reliable, valid, and accurate in an empirical study reported in this chapter.
Abstract
The SAI is a 225-item self-report test that can take 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. It is an automated (computer scored) test that can be given in paper-pencil test booklet format, on a computer screen, or over the Internet. It takes 3 minutes to score. The SAI identifies sexual deviance and paraphilia in people accused or convicted of sex offenses. As an adult sexual offender test, the SAI has many unique features. It contains 13 scales: six sex-related scales and seven non-sex-related scales. Another unique SAI feature is its inclusion of two truthfulness scales, because it is important to know whether or not the offender was truthful when answering questions. The features of each of the SAI scales are described in this chapter. The chapter concludes with an SAI research study that involves 4,854 adult sex offenders. The appendix presents a sample SAI report, which is computer-scored. 8 tables and 107 references
