Abstract

In Sergio’s Story, readers learn some techniques for helping cope with strong feelings relating to labor trafficking experiences. Children and youth who have been victims of labor trafficking can have a template for what to expect as they encounter the criminal justice system and participate in a federal case. Readers also see how Sergio discusses his story with a trusted adult, meets with a victim advocate in the prosecutor’s office, receives help to navigate the criminal legal system, and is supported by family and a caseworker. This resource also provides readers with access to support materials for child victims and witness support, focusing on criminal court and child welfare systems, which are available in a variety of languages.
