THESE TESTS SHOW THAT THE SASIS FUNCTIONS WELL ACROSS THE SAME CHANNEL WITH LOW BACKGROUND NOISE: HOWEVER, THE USE OF DIFFERENT CHANNELS AND/OR NOISY SPEECH SEVERELY LIMITS THE UTILITY OF THE SASIS.
Abstract
TEST RECORDINGS INCLUDED THE GENERAL AMERICAN ENGLISH, BLACK URBAN, AND CHICANO DIALECTS SPOKEN BY BOTH MALE AND FEMALE SPEAKERS. IN THE LABORATORY TESTS THE SASIS FUNCTIONED WELL EXCEPT WHEN SPEAKERS DISGUISED THEIR VOICES WITH A BLACK URBAN DIALECT. THE PROCESSING OF 'REAL WORLD' CASES WAS NOT AS SATISFACTORY. THE REPORT CONCLUDES THAT UNTIL THE CHANNEL AND NOISE RESTRICTIONS CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE SASIS BY ADDITIONAL AND ANALYTICAL DEVELOPMENT, FORMAL EVALUATION OF THE SYSTEM IS OF EXTREMELY LIMITED VALUE.
