AN ANSWER-KEYED, SELF-ADMINISTERED TEST FOR GRADUATE PHYSICIANS WHO WISH TO UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF FORENSIC AND ORGANIC PSYCHIATRY IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
IN ADDITION TO HELPING PHYSICIANS DETECT AREAS OF WEAKNESS IN THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF THESE SUBJECTS, THE TEST PROVIDES A MEANS OF ENHANCING SKILLS IN TACKLING MULTIPLE-CHOICE TESTS SIMILAR TO THOSE USED BY MEDICAL BOARDS IN POSTGRADUATE EXAMINATIONS. THE TEST FOCUSES ON NEW INFORMATION, COVERING MORE TRADITIONAL MATERIAL IN A BRIEF SURVEY. TO PROVIDE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRINCIPLES INVOLVED IN THE QUESTIONS (PARTICULARLY IN THE ORGANIC SECTION), BACKGROUND INFORMATION IS INCLUDED IN THE STATEMENT OF THE QUESTION. THE QUESTIONS ARE CROSS-REFERENCED TO A LIST OF THE ARTICLES AND TEXTS FROM WHICH THEY WERE TAKEN. QUESTIONS ON FORENSIC PSYCHIATRY DEAL WITH HISTORICAL ASPECTS AND THE ORIGINS OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR; CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY; EVIDENCE IN THE JUDICIAL PROCESS, CREDIBILITY OF TESTIMONY, COMPETENCY ISSUES, AND TESTAMENTARY CAPACITY; PSYCHOPATHOLOGY AND PARTICULAR CRIMINAL OFFENSES; FAMILY LAW, DIVORCE, CHILD CUSTODY, CHILD ABUSE, AND ABORTION; HOSPITAL ADMISSION AND DISCHARGE PROCEDURES, CORRECTIONS, AND TREATMENT ASPECTS; AND MALPRACTICE. THE SECTION ON ORGANIC PSYCHIATRY INCLUDES QUESTIONS ON ACUTE BRAIN SYNDROME, AND ADDICTION; DELIRIUM, INTOXICATION, CHRONIC BRAIN SYNDROME ASSOCIATED WITH CIRCULATORY DISTURBANCES, INFECTIOUS DISEASES, TRAUMA AND ITS CONSEQUENCES, NEOPLASIAS, SENILE AND PRESENILE DEMENTIAS, AND DEMENTIFORM DISORDERS; ORGANIC ASPECTS OF MENTAL RETARDATION; PAROXYSMAL DISORDER AND MINIMAL BRAIN DYSFUNCTION; ENDOCRINE AND METABOLIC DISORDERS, SEXUAL DYSFUNCTIONAL, AND PSYCHOSOMATIC MEDICINE; ORGANIC AND BIOCHEMICAL FEATURES OF SCHIZOPHRENIAS AND AFFECTIVE DISORDERS; AND PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY.
