THIS STUDY ANALYZES VARIOUS POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS TASKS AND WAYS IN WHICH APPROPRIATE AND EFFECTIVE AUDIOVISUAL EQUIPMENT MAY BE CHOSEN FOR EACH.
Abstract
EXISTING LITERATURE CONCERNING THE QUESTION OF WHICH AUDIOVISUAL (AV) MEDIUM IS MOST APPROPRIATE FOR PARTICULAR COMMUNICATIONS TASKS IS REVIEWED. THE SECTION EXAMINES THE USE OF AV EQUIPMENT FROM THE PERSPECTIVES OF PUBLIC RELATIONS THEORY AND INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA PLANNING, AND AS IT RELATES TO COMMUNITY RELATIONS. THE STATE OF THE ART OF AV MEDIA USE IN PUBLIC RELATIONS IS SUMMARIZED. THE METHODS OF THIS RESEARCH ARE EXPLAINED, INCLUDING DESCRIPTIONS OF THE SUBJECTS SURVEYED, THE MEASURES EMPLOYED, AND RESEARCH DESIGN AND PROCEDURES. FINDINGS OF THE STUDY ARE SUMMARIZED, AND EACH RESEARCH QUESTION IS CONSIDERED SEPARATELY. SUPPORTING DATA ARE PRESENTED IN TABULAR FORM. CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM THE STUDY AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH ARE DISCUSSED. A SUBJECT BIBLIOGRAPHY IS PROVIDED. DIAGRAMS ILLUSTRATING THE MEDIA SELECTION PROCESS ARE APPENDED, AS ARE A LIST OF CITIES USED IN THE SURVEY, THE QUESTIONNAIRE AND RESPONSES RECEIVED, AND AN OUTLINE FOR A POLICE/STUDENT RELATIONS COURSE.
