This directory presents general information on child abuse reporting and volunteering to prevent child abuse and lists, describes, and provides contact information for approximately 100 general and selected resources related to child abuse prevention, recognition, reporting, and services.
Abstract
The overview emphasizes that reporting is a means of obtaining help for a child or family and that the reporter does not have to prove that child abuse has occurred. Organizations for which people can volunteer to prevent child abuse include chapters of the National Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse (NCPCA), Parents Anonymous, social service agencies, and other groups. General resources include audiovisuals, directories, hotlines, literature searches, materials on child abuse and parenting, the NCPCA media campaign, photographs of abused children, self-help groups, and statistical reports. Specialized resources include adoption resources, organizations for adult survivors of childhood abuse, resources for children and youth, sources of legal services and advocacy, culture-specific organizations, family resources, resources for children with disabilities and for gifted children, police resources, medical resources, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, parent resources, and organizations focusing specifically on child abuse and neglect.
