The third Sino-American Conference in Criminal Justice, held in 1990 in Taiwan, aimed to exchange knowledge and information as a means of developing international cooperation; this was the first year in which scholars and experts from other Pacific-rim countries were invited to participate. The theme of the conference was "Challenges to Criminal Justice in the 1990's."
Abstract
Two articles in this collection of conference papers deal with crime prevention efforts in the Philippines and Korea, followed by an analysis of the Taiwanese juvenile justice system. A series of three articles analyze various aspects of organized crime and violence, including one describing the problem of Asian gangs in the United States. A discussion of strategic planning, training, and the changing roles of police was also part of this conference. Developing effective police leadership is the topic of the concluding article.
