THE DUTIES OF SECURITY OFFICERS INCLUDE THE INSPECTION OF FIREFIGHTING EQUIPMENT AND THE REPORTING OF FIRES AS DESCRIBED IN THIS FILM STRIP AND AUDIOCASSETTE SEGMENT FROM THE SECURITY OFFICER SERIES.
Abstract
THE FIRE PREVENTION DUTIES OF SECURITY PERSONNEL HELP ENSURE THAT FACILITY PERSONNEL WILL HAVE SAFE WORKING CONDITIONS. WHEN STARTING A SECURITY ASSIGNMENT, THE OFFICER SHOULD TEST THE ALARM SYSTEM AND MAKE LISTS OF FIRE DEPARTMENTS' AND AMBULANCE SERVICES PHONE NUMBERS. THESE SHOULD BE POSTED THROUGHOUT THE FACILITY. WHILE ON PATROL, OFFICERS SHOULD BE ALERT TO FIRE HAZARDS SUCH AS OILY RAGS, OPEN SOLVENT CONTAINERS, AND WASTE PAPER PILES, INSPECT ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, AND TURN OFF UNATTENDED EQUIPMENT. BLOCKED FIRE EXITS MUST BE CLEARED, AND INOPERABLE FIREFIGHTING EQUIPMENT REPAIRED OR REPLACED. OFFICERS' TRAINING SHOULD INCLUDE THE HANDLING OF BASIC EQUIPMENT SUCH AS FIRE EXTINGUISHERS. IN THE EVENT OF AN ELECTRICAL FIRE, POWER SHOULD BE TURNED OFF, AND TYPE-C FIRE EXTINGUISHERS USED TO CONTROL THE FIRE. CARBON MONOXIDE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ARE TO BE USED FOR VEHICLE FIRES, AND OUGHT TO BE CARRIED IN ALL PATROL CARS. ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE KEPT IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. INSPECTION TAGS AND SEALS OUGHT TO BE CURRENT. OFFICERS SHOULD KNOW WHETHER THE FIRE ALARMS ONLY RING WITHIN THE FACILITY, OR WHETHER THE ALARMS AUTOMATICALLY NOTIFY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. SUPERVISORS SHOULD INSTRUCT PERSONNEL IN THE USE OF THE SECURITY CONTROL CENTER AND THE EMERGENCY ALARM SYSTEMS. IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE, PERSONNEL MUST IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, AND SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO DIRECT THE FIREFIGHTERS TO THE FIRE. (TWK)
