This introductory textbook presents an interdisciplinary approach to the problems of security and loss prevention and explains countermeasures to protect against crimes, fires, and accidents.
Abstract
Individual sections present discussions of the historical development of security; the growth and problems of the security industry; and the use of risk analysis, planning, evaluation, research, and security standards. Additional chapters provide an overview of civil and criminal law related to security functions, discuss the recruitment of security personnel and organizations, and detail strategies for preventing crime from internal and external sources. Further sections focus on the selection of security services and equipment, the handling of investigations, emergency procedures, risk management, information security, electronic surveillance and wiretapping, terrorism and executive protection, substance abuse, and probable future security issues and developments. Tables, case examples, chapter notes, index, and 36 references
