NCJ Number
155395
Date Published
1994
Length
7 pages
Annotation
This pamphlet was produced by the Great Britain Home Office under Section 95 of the Criminal Justice Act 1991, which requires the dissemination of information to practitioners in the criminal justice system to avoid racial discrimination.
Abstract
The information presented here is in summary form, but nonetheless explains the concerns that have been expressed about the differential treatment of Afro-Caribbean residents in Britain. Other, nonracial explanations for differential treatment in the criminal justice system may include social, legal, and economic factors, as well as different patterns of offending among ethnic groups. The statistical section covers ethnic minorities in Great Britain, prison statistics, and figures on practitioners in the criminal justice system. The final section discusses how ethnic minorities are treated by the police, in court, in sentencing, and in prisons.
