After a brief study description, this codebook presents the study instrument and lists the variables and coding for a 1963 study of the handling of search and seizure evidence since the 1961 U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring all States to exclude illegally seized evidence from courtroom proceedings.
Abstract
Questionnaires were mailed to one police chief, prosecutor, trial court judge, defense attorney, and official of the American Civil Liberties Union in each of the 50 States. Questions focused not only on current procedures but also on the knowledge and values of the respondents and the use of civil and legal action to deter illegal searches.
