STUDY OF POLICE METHODS FOR SEARCHING SCENES OF CRIME, WITH SUGGESTIONS FOR INCREASING DETECTION POTENTIAL.
Abstract
THE OBSERVATIONS MADE IN THIS ARTICLE WERE DERIVED FROM THE WORK OF FOUR EXPERIMENTAL SEARCH TEAMS. EACH TEAM WAS DIRECTED BY A CRIMINALISTICS EXPERT AND ALL WERE UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE AUTHORS WHO WERE REPRESENTING THE POLICE PLANNING ORGANIZATION. AS THE VITAL LINK BETWEEN THE INVESTIGATOR AND THE LABORATORY SCIENTIST, THE SCENEOF-CRIME SEARCH OFFICER SHOULD BE TRAINED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF BOTH. HIS TRAINING SHOULD BE SPECIALLY ORIENTED TO KEEP PACE WITH THE ADVANCES AND TECHNIQUES OF FORENSIC SCIENCE, THROUGH BOTH PRELIMINARY AND REFRESHER COURSES. DETECTION POTENTIAL (E.G., EXCRETA, PERSPIRATION). SEARCH OFFICERS' TASKS, STANDARD AND SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, AND AREAS WARRANTING FURTHER RESEARCH FOR THEIR INCREASED DETECTION POTENTIAL (E.G. EXCRETA PERSPIRATION).
