Gang-related issues in the Salt Lake City, Utah area are discussed.
Abstract
This publication contains what appear to be articles written by various members of the Salt Lake Area Gang Project (Project) presented at the 1995 Utah Gang Conference, held April 6-7, 1995 in Salt Lake City. Articles included describe the tracking of gang activity from Ogden to Provo, a basic introduction to gang awareness, community and individual responses to gang violence, school-based prevention programs, intervention programs, and mentoring programs, the role of the media and churches in preventing gang violence, gang graffiti, the role of girls in gangs, gangs and drug use, the growing trend of white, suburban gangs, Christian Identity Skinheads, and gangs and auto theft. Also provided are a table of gang alliances, a listing of members of the governing board of the Project, a gang-related events flow chart for 1994, and bar and circle graphs comparing the racial makeup and membership of gangs as well as types of gang-related crimes for 1992, 1993, and 1994.
