This video solicits funds from viewers for the purchase and delivery of Bibles to Russian inmates and other Russian citizens.
Abstract
The video repeatedly shows Russian inmates crowding around a table in a prison auditorium, reaching out to receive Bibles as they are distributed by prison-ministry personnel. There are not enough Bibles for all the inmates who want them. The video portrays the disappointed faces of those inmates who did not receive Bibles. The commentator notes that Bibles are scarce in Russia at a time when the people are desperately seeking a spiritual foundation for their lives. A Russian woman comments that the economic and social instability in Russia has prompted the Russian people to search for some predictable source of strength and meaning in the spiritual dimension. This quest for spiritual meaning among Russians and the scarcity of Bibles are the bases for the video's appeal to viewers for money to buy and distribute Bibles to Russian inmates and citizens. The money received will also support prison chaplains and inmate religious programs.
