The six sections of this book focus on a number of major areas of concern in understanding rural criminal justice, such as the contextual setting of rural criminal justice and rural-urban differences in crime and criminal justice.
Abstract
The first section looks at trends in and foundations of rural criminal justice, with emphasis on the nature and scope of rural crime and economic realities of rural criminal justice. The second section covers structural components of rural law enforcement, while the third section examines the structure and role of rural courts. The fourth section considers the history of county and municipal jails and the structure of rural corrections. The fifth section identifies special issues in rural criminal justice, including the industrialization of wilderness areas, women and crime, rural juvenile courts, American Indian justice and tribal courts, rightist extremism, and rural unrest. The final section addresses the future of rural criminal justice. References and tables
