The activities, accomplishments, organization, and administration of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force for the year 1979 are described.
Abstract
An overall increase in crime of 25.3 percent from 1978 was reported. The increase was primarily due to a rise in offenses against property, especially housebreaking, and to a lesser extent to offenses against public morality and to offenses against lawful authority. However, no external threats and no civil disturbances were noted for the year; the police photographic darkroom began operations and one applicant was recruited for permanent police duty. Less money was spent on the police force than in 1978. Further details are offered in the areas of organization and administration, recruitment and training, crime, traffic, other specialized branches, welfare and recreation, and other police duties. Problems are noted in the areas of training, recruitment, and crime prevention. Two successful police operations against armed criminals are described. Tabular data and report forms for case disposal accompany the text.
