Abstract
By means of a Canadian case study, the authors examine the role of the probation officer in presentence evaluation and post-sentence intervention vis-a-vis offenders and referrals to community resources. The first objective of the probation officer in psychiatric cases is to help in some way resolve the conflict engendered by the offense and keep this in mind when dealing with offender social services.
