THIS MANUAL DESCRIBES HOW CORRECTIONAL MANAGERS CAN BUILD BETTER WORKING ENVIRONMENTS THROUGH INCREASING THE LEVELS OF TRUST IN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
Abstract
THE NEED FOR BUILDING TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS IS EXPLAINED THROUGH AN EXAMINATION OF BOTH THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND 'PEOPLE' FACTORS WHICH EXERT PRESSURE ON CORRECTIONAL MANAGERS. A MODEL FOR TRUST-BUILDING IS PRESENTED WHICH PROVIDES THE THEORETICAL UNDERSTANDING UPON WHICH EFFECTIVE TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS ARE BUILT. PROMINENT LEADERSHIP STYLES WHICH INFLUENCE AND ARE INFLUENCED BY THE DEGREE OF TRUST PRESENT IN AN ADMINISTRATIVE ENVIRONMENT ARE EXAMINED. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRUST, COMMUNICATIONS, AND COOPERATION IS DISCUSSED AS THE TEXT OUTLINES HOW MANAGERS CAN MEASURE THE DEGREE AND EFFECTIVENESS OF ORGANIZATION COMMUNICATION AND HOW THEY CAN CREATE COOPERATIVE ENVIRONMENTS. A SERIES OF MEASURING INSTRUMENTS IF PRESENTED THAT ENABLES MANAGERS TO MEASURE ORGANIZATIONAL HEALTH AS AN INDEX OF THE DEGREE OF TRUST PRESENT IN THE ORGANIZATION. THE FINAL SECTION IS A SUMMARY WHICH, AFTER A READING OF THE MANUAL, CAN SERVE AS A FINGERTIP GUIDE TO SALIENT POINTS IN THE BODY OF THE TEXT.
