These two volumes provide the variable description lists and codebooks for the annual evaluation data (1973, 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1979) of the Hartford (Connecticut) Residential Crime Control Project -- a crime prevention program intended to reduce burglaries, robberies, and the fear of those crimes
Abstract
An introduction to each of the volumes discusses data collection procedures, sampling, weighting, file structure, codebook information, and information processing. Telephone and field interviews with residents were used to collect data in 1973, 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1979. Survey questions covered victimization, fear, and perceived risk of being victims of the target crimes; perceptions of and attitudes toward police; neighborhood problems, neighbors, and household characteristics; and respondent characteristics. The data come in two formats: a card-image file and an OSIRIS data set. Frequencies addenda are provided for data obtained in 1973, 1976, 1977, and 1979.
