A DISCUSSION OF SOME OF THE DIFFICULTIES LIKELY TO BE ENCOUNTERED IN GAINING PERMISSION FROM AGENCY OFFICIALS TO INTERVIEW PROBATIONERS, AND A REVIEW OF THE PROBLEMS OF INTERVIEWING ONCE PERMISSION HAS BEEN GRANTED.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR STATES THAT DIFFICULTIES MAY ARISE DUE TO THE FOLLOWING: CONCERN OVER THE POSSIBLE DANGER TO THE AGENCY'S IMAGE; CONCERN OVER THE POSSIBLE EFFECTS OF INTERVIEWS UPON CLIENTS; AND CONCERN OVER WHAT DEMANDS THE RESEARCH WILL MAKE ON THE TIME OF AGENCY PERSONNEL. SUGGESTIONS ON DEALING WITH INTERVIEWING PROBLEMS ARE THEN DISCUSSED. THESE PROBLEMS INCLUDE ESTABLISHING THE IDENTITY OF THE RESEARCHER, FINDING CONVENIENT TIMES FOR INTERVIEWING, AND REACHING HARD-TO-CONTACT RESPONDENTS.
