The United States has taken a position of international leadership in research on drug abuse and efforts to prevent it; Federal agencies and academic institutions provide technical assistance to the international community.
Abstract
Technical assistance often results from formal agreements between the United States and other nations or international organizations. The increasing demand for United States expertise has led certain agencies to develop country-specific criteria for responding to international requests, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse has established program priorities for consultants. Many United States agencies also arrange specific training in United States institutions. The opportunities for international technical exchange and research will probably increase in the future. 1 reference note
