The association between a history of sexual or physical abuse and scores on various psychological symptomatology scales was investigated.
Abstract
Eighty-eight women inpatients were given a self- administered questionnaire early in their hospitalization. The prevalence rate of a reported history of abuse was high (81 percent). These abused inpatients scored significantly higher than did their nonabused counterparts on the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES); the anxiety, hostility, and psychoticism scales of the Symptom Checklist 90-Revised; and the borderline, antisocial, schizoid, and self-defeating personality disorder scales of the Personality Disorder Questionnaire. Those with a DSM-III-R diagnosis of a dissociative disorder scored high on DES. 3 tables and 29 references
