This is a report of the 10th United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders.
Abstract
The report describes a resolution adopted by the Congress - Vienna Declaration on Crime and Justice: Meeting the Challenges of the Twenty-first Century. It also describes "housekeeping" actions such as electing officers, adopting rules of procedure, adopting the agenda, and organizing the work of the Congress. Agenda items in plenary meetings and sessional bodies include: (1) the state of crime and criminal justice worldwide; (2) international cooperation in combating transnational crime: new challenges in the twenty-first century; (3) promoting the rule of law and strengthening the criminal justice system; (4) effective crime prevention: keeping pace with new developments; and (5) offenders and victims: accountability and fairness in the justice process. Report of the workshops concern combating corruption, crimes related to the computer network, community involvement in crime prevention, and women in the criminal justice system. Notes, appendixes
