This report highlights the activities of the National Institute for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in fiscal year 1986.
Abstract
The goals and objectives of the Research and Program Development Division included conducting research and evaluation into any aspect of juvenile delinquency, encouraging the development of demonstration projects, providing for the evaluation of all juvenile delinquency programs assisted under the Juvenile Justice Act, providing for the evaluation of any other juvenile delinquency program when necessary, and preparing studies concerning the prevention and treatment of juvenile delinquency and related matters. This report discusses the etiology and prevention of delinquent behavior and child exploitation, the etiology of delinquency and delinquent career patterns, delinquency prevention, missing and victimized children, improvement of the juvenile justice system, and justice statistics. Other topics include national trends in juvenile delinquency victimization and the justice system response, assessment of national data collection efforts, system processing of juvenile offenders, and alternatives to juvenile justice processing. Activities of the Training, Dissemination, and Technical Assistance Division are also described.
