This report contains an outline of inspection procedures, a summary of the general conditions found at six Scottish prisons, and recommendations for improvements.
Abstract
The inspection noted conditions on buildings, security, staff morale, inmate morale, inmate employment and occupation, services and facilities, and committees. The report concludes that attention is still required to ameliorate overcrowding of short-term and remand section facilities. Specific recommendations relate to the inmates' earning scheme and the problem of containing and treating disturbed inmates within penal establishments.
