This publication provides the machine-readable codebook for an evaluation of police programs in Houston, Tex., and Newark, N.J., designed to reduce the fear of crime.
Abstract
Surveys in seven neighborhoods covered extent of victimization experiences, crime prevention activities, attitudes towards police, perceptions of crime, crime-avoidance behaviors, and satisfaction with quality of life in the neighborhood. The codebook specifies questions, variable labels, and values for each of the study's six data files: pre- and postintervention surveys of residential neighborhoods, pre- and postintervention surveys of nonresidential establishments, followup study of Houston victims, and questionnaire newsletter.
