FACTORS TO CONSIDER IN EVALUATING THE VARIED EVIDENCE OBTAINED IN THE COURSE OF INVESTIGATING TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ARE EXAMINED, BASED ON NINE ACCIDENTS THAT OCCURRED IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND.
Abstract
FOUR OF THE NINE ACCIDENTS WERE TWO-CAR COLLISIONS, AND THE REMAINING FIVE WERE ONE-CAR ACCIDENTS. EQUATIONS ARE USED TO ESTIMATE THE SPEED OR MOTION OF THE VEHICLE OR PERSON IN SEVEN ACCIDENTS. FOR FIVE ACCIDENTS, THE DRAG FACTOR OR COEFFICIENT OF FRICTION IS PART OF THE EQUATION. SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS RELATED TO RECONSTRUCTING TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ARE IMPACT, DAMAGE, COURSE AFTER COLLISION, SPEED, WHETHER THE ACCIDENT INVOLVED A LARGE CAR AND A SMALL CAR, ANGULAR DEFORMATION OF TWO-COLLISION CAR FRONTS, GOUGE MARKS, HIGHWAY STAINS, FRONT-SIDE COLLISION OF TWO CARS, AIR TRAJECTORY OF A CAR, A CAR AS A PASSENGER CATAPULT, WHETHER A CAR, BACKED INTO A TREE, AND PEDESTRIANS (BODY MOVEMENT WITH TRUCKS AND CARS).
