This report summarizes the findings and recommendations of a multidisciplinary committee formed in March 1992 by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services to facilitate the systematic development and expansion of a child fatality review structure at the State and local levels.
Abstract
The committee consisted of representatives of Federal departments and agencies administering child abuse and neglect programs, national organizations concerned with the issue, and experts already involved in implementing fatality review teams. The recommendations emphasized the development and implementation of fatality review teams, model standards, protocols, the training of review team members, information sharing, cultural sensitivity, model legislation, evaluation, financing, confidentiality, and the Federal leadership role.
