FORMULA FOR HELPING INSTITUTIONALIZED INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE LACKING MOTIVATION, HAVE FEW CLOSE PERSONAL TIES, AND POSSESS A NEGATIVE SELF-IMAGE, ORIENTED TOWARD FAILURE.
Abstract
FAILURE ORIENTED INDIVIDUALS MUST BECOME INVOLVED IN EXAMINING THEIR PRESENT BEHAVIOR AND MUST BE MADE TO REALIZE THAT THEY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO CHANGE IT TO MORE SOCIALLY ACCEPTED PATTERNS. THESE INDIVIDUALS MUST BE GIVEN AS MUCH FREEDOM WITHIN THE INSTITUTIONAL SETTING AS POSSIBLE ALONG WITH THE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS. RULES AND REGULATIONS SHOULD BE FOLLOWED CONSISTENTLY AND FIRMLY, ALWAYS AVOIDING PUNITIVE MEASURES. COUNSELING SHOULD BE OF A SUPPORTIVE NATURE, HELPING THE INDIVIDUAL TO PLAN HIS OWN FUTURE AND URGING HIM TO MAKE SOME TYPE OF COMMITMENT TO HIMSELF OR OTHERS.
