SECTION ONE IS CONCERNED WITH WHAT IS MEANT BY JUVENILE DELINQUENCY, NOT ONLY IN THE UNITED STATES, BUT CROSSCULTURALLY. SECTIONS TWO, THREE AND FOUR REVIEW CURRENT THEORIES OF SOCIAL AND INDIVIDUAL CAUSATIVE FACTORS WITH ARTICLES RELATING DELINQUENCY TO THE FAMILY, PEER GROUP, AND SCHOOL. SECTION FIVE COMPRISES SEVEN ARTICLES ON SPECIFIC PATTERNS OF DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR. THESE ARTICLES DISCUSS SUCH OFFENSES AS VANDALISM, NARCOTICS USE, AND AUTO THEFT. SECTIONS SIX, SEVEN AND EIGHT DISCUSS THE INSTITUTIONS OF CONTROL, PREVENTION, AND TREATMENT OF DELINQUENCY. THE FINAL SECTION TRACES THE PROGRESS OF A GROUP OF KNOWN DELINQUENTS THROUGH THIRTY YEARS. THESE ARTICLES ARE THE WRITINGS OF PROFESSIONALS-THEORETICIANS AND THOSE WHO DEAL DIRECTLY WITH DELINQUENTS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
