The questions presented in this document constitute a checklist for communities considering how to organize the implementation of a Reclaiming Futures effort, which involves improving the treatment and services for youth in the juvenile justice system who have drug and/or alcohol problems.
Abstract
The questions guide the leaders of a Reclaiming Futures effort in obtaining and organizing the information, data, tools, and resources needed to plan and implement the six-phase model for treating and serving substance-abusing youth who enter the juvenile justice system. The six-phase model is first presented as consisting of initial screening, initial assessment, service coordination, service initiation, engagement in treatment, and completion. The questions of the checklist are presented under 10 domains: overview and broad vision; leadership for change; planning for collaboration; community-directed engagement; data and evaluation; screening and assessment; service coordination; initiation, engagement, and completion; broadening community supports; and sustaining and expanding the effort.
