ENGLANDS' NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR CIVIL LIBERTIES PRESENTS THE RAPE PICTURE FROM POINT OF VIEW OF VICTIM AND DISCUSSES A BALANCE BETWEEN THAT AND RIGHTS OF THE ACCUSED.
Abstract
A RECENT COURT DECISION IN ENGLAND HAS RENEWED THE RAPE DEBATE THERE. THE DECISION SAID THAT A MAN SHOULD BE ACQUITTED OF RAPE IF HE HONESTLY BELIEVED THAT THE WOMAN CONSENTED, NO MATTER HOW UNREASONABLE HIS BELIEF MIGHT HAVE BEEN. THE 1975 RULING HAS SPARKED A DISCUSSION OF A NUMBER OF RELATED ISSUES, SUCH AS HOW THE RAPE LAW ACTUALLY WORKS. THE BOOKLET DISCUSSES COURT PROCEDURES REGARDING PUTTING THE VICTIM ON TRIAL, AND HOW MEN ARE DEFENDED. IT EXPLORES THE MYTHS AND FACTS ABOUT RAPE. ANOTHER ASPECT OF THE PAMPHLET IS HOW THE LAW SHOULD BE CHANGED TO FURTHER AID THE VICTIM. THE BOOKLET ALSO EXPLAINS WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE RAPED....BS
