A GUIDE FOR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS AIMED AT LOCAL BUSINESSES, THIS MANUAL POINTS OUT THAT SOLICITING GROUPS SHOULD EMPHASIZE THEIR VALUABLE SERVICES WHEN ASKING FOR FUNDS.
Abstract
THE ORGANIZATION'S FUNDRAISING EFFORTS AIMED AT LOCAL BUSINESSES SHOULD BE DIRECTED BY A TEAM COMPOSED OF VOLUNTEER MEMBERS WHO ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AND WHO HAVE COMMUNITY STATURE. INFORMATION COLLECTED ABOUT THE BUSINESSES TARGETED FOR SOLICITATION SHOULD INCLUDE THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERS OF THE CORPORATION, ITS HISTORY, THE VOLUME OF BUSINESS, GROSS PROFITS, NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES, AND LEVEL OF COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT (USE OF COMMUNITY AS CUSTOMERS AND AS EMPLOYEES). INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION MUST INCLUDE GOALS, ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ECONOMIC BENEFITS TO THE COMMUNITY EXPRESSED IN A COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS. IN REQUESTING FUNDS, TIMING SHOULD BE CONSIDERED, SINCE CHRISTMAS IS A BETTER TIME TO SOLICIT FUNDS THAN APRIL. ALL THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION SHOULD BE PRESENTED IN A LETTER REQUESTING A MEETING, FOLLOWED BY A CALL TO ARRANGE THE MEETING. A SPECIFIC AMOUNT TO BE REQUESTED SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED BEFORE THE MEETING, AND A PACKET OF INFORMATION SHOULD BE LEFT WITH THE BUSINESS AFTER THE MEETING. FOLLOWUP ACTIVITIES INCLUDE BIWEEKLY MEETINGS, MAINTENANCE OF CHARTS AND FILES, AND ARRANGING FOR FUTURE MEETINGS. A RESOURCE LIST IS INCLUDED.
