Abstract
An analysis of raids emphasizes six essential elements: planning, preparation, intelligence, coordination, execution, and safety. The book presents a format for a written raid plan and details information a preraid briefing should cover. The author examines preraid surveillance and the need for quality intelligence aimed at targeted suspects and locations. Equipment, transportation, communications, and firearms policies are also discussed in raid planning. Individual and team assignments are outlined for surveillance, entry, arrest, search, and support activities. A step-by-step description demonstrates how a raid should be executed from beginning to end; this section reviews safety, security, and emergency considerations. The discussion of followup procedures addresses preservation of evidence, handling and processing of prisoners, and report writing. A summary of the arrest laws focuses on characteristics that comprise a legal arrest, as well as constitutional requirements regarding search and seizure. Finally, the book classifies raids into 10 categories and explores special problems presented by outdoor raids. An index is provided.
