Puerto Rico has enacted legislation that establishes a criminal justice information system (CJIS) and a statistical analysis center and that governs the safety and privacy of the CJIS and its data support centers.
Abstract
An Executive Board has been created to ensure the security and accuracy of information contained in the CJIS and to protect individual privacy. Other legislative measures have been passed to oversee CJIS safety and privacy. These measures are designed to encourage the submission of accurate information and to prevent the irresponsible disclosure of incomplete or incorrect information. The CJIS Data Center is the central repository for criminal justice information, and data support centers are authorized in criminal justice agencies. Legislation limits the dissemination of information contained in the CJIS, in accordance with safety and privacy considerations.
