Abstract
According to data gathered by questionnaire from the various police departments, in 1979-80, Canada's overall police strength totaled 47,449 police officers, of which 5 percent were with the Federal police, 29 percent with provincial police, and 66 percent with municipal police. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police services at all three levels accounted for 22 percent of the total reported strength. Special sections of the report cover Surete de Quebec, Ontario Provincial Police, and law enforcement services provided by agencies other than police departments. Extensive tabular and graphic data are provided. Study instruments and additional materials are appended.
