Abstract

THE AUSTRALIAN AUTHOR, IN DISCUSSING THE CHANGING ROLE OF THE AUSTRALIAN POLICE FORCES COVERS POLITICAL CONTROL, RESPONSE TO CHANGE, MANPOWER DISTRIBUTION, POLICE OBJECTIVES, MEASUREMENT OF PERFORMANCE, AND MEASUREMENT OF CIVILIAN DEMAND. THE ARTICLE ON CANADA REVIEWS THE ORGANIZATION OF THE POLICE IN CANADA AND THEN EXAMINES PARTICULAR ASPECTS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM WHICH THE AUTHOR BELIEVES HAVE INFLUENCED PUBLIC/POLICE ATTITUDES TOWARD THE ROLE OF THE POLICE.
