This manual has been designed to guide an instructor step-by-step through the eight-week Project Impact Course, which is designed to help youth assess their thoughts and behavior.
Abstract
Project Impact is based upon a program designed by Calvin College and Grand Rapids Junior College entitled: "Self-Awareness Through Values Clarification." Activities have been adopted that are consistent with the philosophy, goals and approach of the model program, yet suitable to adolescents. According to the program, the specific goals for each participant include learning more about self, developing skills for growth and change, increasing awareness of own responsibility, and increasing awareness of seriousness of offense. The focus of the classes is self-awareness and the instructor will help students explore their identity by using values exercises. Classes are based on the theory by Carkhoff and Anthony, which suggests that students learn about themselves best if they are taught in four phases: Involvement, Exploration, Understanding, and Action. Included within the manual are instructions and handouts for all sessions, evaluation materials, "tips," and a list of reading for further information.
