Abstract

BJA’s Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP) supports innovative cross-system collaboration to improve responses to and outcomes for individuals with mental illness (MI) or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders processed in the justice system. BJA’s Connect and Protect: Law Enforcement Behavioral Health Response Program supports cross-system collaboration to improve public safety responses to and outcomes for individuals with MI or co-occurring mental and substance use disorders who come into contact with the justice system. The Kevin and Avonte Program supports local jurisdictions’ efforts to reduce the number of deaths and injuries of individuals with forms of dementia or developmental disabilities that may cause them to wander from safe environments. The Collaborative Crisis Response Training Program funds the implementation of transdisciplinary crisis response training to educate, train, and prepare law enforcement officers in appropriately interacting with people who have mental illness, intellectual disabilities, or developmental disabilities. BJA’s Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and other Substance Abuse Program (COSSAP) promotes the leveraging of existing resources within a community in supporting addiction recovery. Other programs profiled are the Adult Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program; the Students, Teachers, and Officers Preventing School Violence Training and Response to Mental Health Crisis Program; the Comprehensive Community-based Adult Reentry Program; the Adult Reentry Education, Employment, Treatment, and Recovery Program; and the Officer Robert Wilson III Preventing Violence Against Law Enforcement Officers and Ensuring Officer Resilience and Survivability Initiative.
