THIS LEAA PACKET CONTAINS INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES ON DEVELOPMENT OF A FULL APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL ASSISTANCE UNDER A NATIONAL PROGRAM DESIGNED TO FUND AND SUPPORT INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS TO PREVENT JUVENILE DELINQUENCY.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM PROVIDES 10 MILLION DOLLARS IN SPECIAL EMPHASIS DISCRETIONARY FUNDS TO PRIVATE AND PUBLIC NOT-FOR-PROFIT AGENCIES PLANNING TO SERVE YOUTH IN DISADVANTAGED RURAL AND URBAN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. AGENCIES OPERATING ON A NATIONAL, REGIONAL, STATE OR LOCAL LEVEL ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THESE FUNDS. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT NEW APPROACHES, TECHNIQUES, AND METHODS TO PREVENT JUVENILE DELINQUENCY IN COMMUNITIES WHERE YOUTH ARE IN GREATEST DANGER OF BECOMING DELINQUENT THROUGH IMPROVING THE ABILITIES OF YOUTH SERVING AGENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPLEMENT PROGRAMS WHICH INCREASE OR EXPAND SOCIAL, CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL, VOCATIONAL, RECREATIONAL AND HEALTH SERVICES TO YOUTH. INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS PACKET INCLUDES A PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT, A NEWS RELEASE ON THE PROGRAM, AND A SECTION OF THE LEAA DISCRETIONARY GUIDELINE MANUAL DESCRIBING THE PROGRAM OBJECTIVES, DESIRED RESULTS, PROGRAM STRATEGIES, GRANT TYPES, ELIGIBILITY FOR GRANTS, EVALUATION REQUIREMENTS, AND CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF PROJECTS. SEVERAL APPENDIXES ARE ALSO INCLUDED. THEY PRESENT INFORMATION ON THE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS, SELECTION CRITERIA, AND SUPPORTING STATISTICS NECESSARY FOR APPLICATIONS.
