NEED FOR CHANGES IN PHILOSOPHY AND PRACTICES TO BRING PROBATION DEPARTMENTS MORE IN LINE WITH NEEDS OF THEIR CLIENTS.
Abstract
PROBATION DEPARTMENT'S MAIN RESPONSIBILITY IS SEEN AS CORRECTLY INTERPRETING THE NEEDS OF THE CLIENT AND PROVIDING SERVICES WHICH WILL BE REALISTIC AND PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS TO HIS PROBLEMS. TO CARRY OUT THIS GOAL, THE AGENCY MUST HAVE INTERNAL CONSISTENCY IN ITS COMMITMENT TO A CLIENT, RATHER THAN AN ORGANIZATION, CENTERED EMPHASIS. THE PROBATION DEPARTMENT IS URGED TO RAISE ITS VOICE IN THE COMMUNITY FOR RESOURCES TO PROVIDE ITS SERVICES, AND TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST SOCIAL CONDITIONS WHICH CHARACTERIZE THE LIVING SITUATION OF ITS CLIENTS.
