COLLECTION OF ARTICLES REPRESENTING CURRENT THINKING ON THE PRINCIPLES, DEVELOPMENTS, AND QUESTIONS OF PROBATION AND PAROLE.
Abstract
THE TEXT IS DIVIDED INTO SECTIONS, COVERING BOTH TOPICS. AMONG PROBATION TOPICS DISCUSSED ARE ITS LEGAL ORIGINS AND ITS DEVELOPMENT. IT IS SHOWN THAT THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROBATION IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM REVEALS A TREND TOWARD A REHABILITATIVE RATHER THAN PUNITIVE METHOD OF CORRECTIONS. ALSO TREATED IS THE PRESENTENCE INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCESS INVOLVED IN COMPILING REPORTS. SUGGESTIONS FOR INTERVIEWING CANDIDATES FOR PROBATION ARE OFFERED, AS WELL AS COMMENTS ON SUPERVISION WITHIN THE PROBATION SYSTEM. APPEARING IN ONE OF THE ARTICLES IN THE PAROLE SECTION IS A TABLE ILLUSTRATING THE COMPARISON OF PAROLE REGULATIONS BY STATE. CONCLUDING ARTICLES ARE CONCERNED WITH PAROLE PREDICTION AND CURRENT THINKING ON THE SUBJECT. A BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INCLUDED.
