SUMMARY FINDINGS OF A STUDY DESIGNED TO DETERMINE THE FACTORS INVOLVED IN THE SUCCESS OF FAILURE OF PROBATIONERS SERVING THEIR SENTENCES IN BERGEN COUNTY.
Abstract
AN EXAMINATION WAS ALSO MADE OF THE JOB BANK PROJECT TO DETERMINE ITS IMPACT ON THE PROBATION OUTCOMES OF ITS CLIENTS. USING STEPWISE, MULTIPLE REGRESSION ANALYSIS, IT WAS FOUND THAT EMPLOYMENT STATUS WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT DETERMINANT OF OUTCOME SUCCESS, ACCOUNTING FOR OVER 52 PERCENT OF PROBATIONERS' VARIATIONS IN OUTCOME. THE JOB BANK PROGRAM WAS THE MAJOR FACTOR IN PROMOTING EMPLOYMENT OF PROBATIONERS, AND ITS MAIN CONTRIBUTION TO PROBATIONERS' SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES APPEARED TO BE ITS CREATION OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY. SEVERAL RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE ON THE BASIS OF THESE FINDINGS, INCLUDING THE EXTENSION OF JOB BANK SERVICES TO A LARGER PROBATION POPULATION, REVISION OF THE RECORD KEEPING SYSTEM, RANDOMIZATION OF CLIENT ASSIGNMENT TO THE JOB BANK, AND INCREASED SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO JOB BANK CLIENTS AND EMPLOYERS....ELW
